NIGEL SZETO is a descendant of the Lingnan School of painting. His father was the second-generation master, Szeto Chi (aka Cang Cheng). In his early years, NIGEL SZETO studied traditional Chinese painting and later enrolled at the Academy of Art in Canada, majoring in painting. His creations span ink, oil, and watercolor, with subjects including landscapes, cityscapes, flowers, birds, insects, fish, historical sites, and even abstract explorations of water forms and their artistic conception.
In the twenty-first century, NIGEL SZETO devotes his life's ink traces to capturing the vibrant essence of flowers, birds, insects, and fish, exploring diverse themes, and striving towards an artistic realm that both honors tradition and forges a unique path.
His creations seamlessly blend tradition and modernity, rooted in ink art while absorbing cultural nutrients from both the East and West. Having grown up in Lingnan and Canada and now based in Hong Kong, his works naturally possess a cross-regional perspective. The landscapes and creatures in his paintings embody both a deep affection for his homeland and a poetic contemplation of nature. His ink art not only continues the vibrant style of the Lingnan School but also creates a fresh ink language within a contemporary context, reflecting a warm and free style that demonstrates a profound understanding of cultural inheritance and personal innovation.
